Mental Health Family Awareness Night

The Mount Adams School District hosted a Title 1 Part C: Mental Health Family Awareness Night on April 17th 2023. We had guest Speakers Valeria Villa from Educational Service District 105 and Laurie Belfon from Solace Care. The topics focused on suicide prevention and guidance on how to navigate our Solace Care platform. The platform is a free confidential online tool that Mount Adams has provided to all local families and can be accessed on our district website. The platform assists families with navigating the mental health care system to find available providers matched to specific needs regardless of insurance status.

The WSHS Leadership Class asks you to SAVE THE DATE!

The Leadership students believe that promoting the diverse cultures of our student population should be celebrated.  The Leadership Class is organizing two Cultural Events.  These events will showcase the music, dance, games, crafts and some of the foods of both the Hispanic and Indigenous Cultures.  The Leadership students are in the process of making local contacts and will be in charge of the organization, promotion, set up, and cleanup of each event.

If there any community members that would like to help the Leadership students demonstrate or teach one of the talents mentioned, please contact Leadership Teacher Marcy Sanchez @ msanchez@masd209.org

Principals Widener and Hernandez Visit Union Gap School- Principals Widener and Hernandez were very interested in seeing how the Union Gap K-8 school functions in regards to flow of traffic and flow of students around the building. We appreciated the time that Principal Vincent spent answering our many questions. We learned that our buildings function very similarly and the focus on high achievement was very clear for the Union Gap students.

The Senior/Kindergarten Campus Walk - Planning for the Senior and Kindergarten Walks are underway. Our team is excited to continue this tradition celebrating the academic spectrum in the Mt. Adams School District. The Seniors and Kindergarten students will walk the High School building on June 7th starting at 9:45. The kinder students will then receive a certificate from members of the Board of Directors and enjoy some cake and punch before returning to class to begin the next 12 years of their school career.  A special thank you to Principals Widener and Tenney for bringing back this important tradition for our community.

Charger Athletics - Mt. Adams Middle School is reaching new levels of participation and success.  We say success, because it is clear that students who participate in sports and other extracurricular activities do better in school and in life.  Spring sports programs have more than 100 student athletes participating on a daily basis. Go Chargers!

Eighth Grade Promotion is less than two months away - Planning for eighth grade promotion is under way.  Parents will soon be notified of the date and times along with a schedule of the event.  The eighth grade students will also be participating in a White Swan High School visit on May 31 from 9-12:30.

The Constellation Mentoring Program comes to White Swan High School - Principals Tenney and Muller are proud to announce that White Swan High School has partnered with Nila Whiteshirt Sears, Upward Bound Coordinator, to implement the Constellation Mentoring program. This is a nationally recognized mentoring program. In this model of mentoring, students engage in meaningful relationships, with peers, staff, and faculty who provide support and guidance. Mrs. Tenney reports that each Wednesday, the group will meet to participate in activities that are fun and are also helpful for our students looking at their future goals and what action steps they could take to achieve their dreams. On Wednesday of this week the group met for the first time. In that meeting they each received a backpack for all materials for the program. They will bring the backpack to their meetings on Wednesdays. This is an exciting opportunity for our students. They will continue their meetings in the summer. There are summer fun activities planned and even opportunities for summer jobs and internships. During their weekly meetings students will be working on their academics, interpersonal skills and interests.

The White Swan Spring Feast Returned to Campus - On Thursday, April 19 the Spring Feast was held in the Bill Parker gym. It was wonderful to see this event come back to our community. Thank-you to our staff Dora Apodaca, Brettagne Aleck, and Albert Squeochs. They did a wonderful job organizing this event. The students that served were amazing and received many compliments from the community for their efforts. We also want to thank Leland Bill and all those who participated in the songs and drumming. A huge thank you to Robert Haggerty, Danner Deane, and Andrew Swan for providing the venison. Ms. Peggy Sanchey was also an important member of the preparation team by providing salmon and teaching our students how to make jam. The event’s success is a result from all of the contributions from our community members and our students.
