Friday Update

Pow Wow at the Harrah Campus – The week started with a very nice Pow Wow Event on the Harrah Campus.  There were well over a thousand people in attendance with drummers, dancers, parents, community members, and the Yakama Warriors.  Thank you to all those who helped plan, those who participated, and all of the students for being such great observers and participants.

Kindergarten Graduation- This is clearly the beginning of Graduation Season.  Tuesday, the White Swan Senior Class of 2023 went to the Harrah Campus to escort the kindergarten students through the hallways, all wearing their graduation mortar board hat and matching red Graduation gown.  All of the students were excited to share this experience with brothers, sisters, cousins, and relatives as well as all of those in attendance.  The District was glad to bring this tradition back to the Harrah Campus and we look forward to seeing just as many people at the White Swan High School Graduation next Thursday in Cougar Stadium.

Staff Appreciation Luncheon took place this week on both campuses.  Board Chairman Larry Garcia was the chief cook, supported by sous-chefs Chad Crawford and Shawn Thurman.  Rita Babcock was the head organizer of the events, and everyone seemed to enjoy the enhanced menu this year of pulled pork sliders, with the hog grown by our FFA students, right here on the White Swan campus.  A great big thank you to all of our staff who have served throughout this school year.

Senior’s attend Baccalaureate - Ceremony was held at the Bill Parker Gym on the White Swan Campus.  Attendance was a little less than we had expected, but those who attended were moved by the inspirational thoughts and prayers offered for this year’s Class of 2023.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony- The new Link Center located on the Yakima Valley College Campus is a program that offers transition support and education to students with special needs.  Our own student, Mr. Japheth Hook was the master of ceremonies and was the individual who “cut the ribbon” opening the new Link Center. The center will offer services for many students in our Valley.   Congratulations Japheth for being asked to do this special honor.

Treaty Day Observed- This week ended with a celebration of Yakama Nation Treaty Days.  The Mt. Adams School District celebrates the Treaty of 1855 with our community – neighbors, friends, relatives, brothers, sisters, and families; the founding of the Yakama Nation. On  June 9, 1855 12 Stat., 951. Ratified Mar. 8, 1859.
