White Swan Students heading to College Sooner than Planned!

White Swan High School  students will have the opportunity to visit college campuses during this school year. We are excited to announce that we have four trips planned for our students in November. The first will be to Heritage University and the second to Big Bend Community College. The Big Bend trip will be geared towards our female wrestlers who might be interested in being a college wrestler. Our students will also be visiting Yakima Valley College as well as Central Washington University.

These trips have been supported by a grant secured by Dr. Guaglianone in partnership with Heritage University.  These have the potential to be life-changing field trips for our students.

Mental Health Supports on the White Swan Campus

On Wednesday, Principal Tenney and the counseling team met with a group of mental health educators from Heritage University and ESD 105. Our ESD 105 partner has secured a grant to work with Heritage University to place counseling interns. The student interns will be first and second year students working on their certification to be therapists or social workers. This program will begin next year and the students will be working in our school for one year,  two or three days per week. This is a wonderful opportunity to provide additional resources to our students.  Mrs. Tenney met with the team in order to paint an accurate picture of our community, students, and needs. It was a very productive meeting and we look forward to having interns placed in our school that will help expand counseling and mental health resources for our students.

High School Students Explore Perry Tech

On Monday, October 30, twenty-six students along with Ms. Barbosa visited the Perry Tech campus. The students enjoyed their visit and were excited to see the different programs that Perry Tech has to offer as post-secondary life skill opportunities. Many of our students are interested in pursuing a career in the technical world. Perry Tech is also offering our teachers the opportunity to attend a STEM clock hour training on January 30th, 2024. This is a wonderful partnership and opportunity for our teachers to help them understand and implement more STEM instruction in our classrooms.

Elder Parking during Basketball Games and Free Admission!

White Swan High School is excited to announce that during home basketball games we will have dedicated Elder Parking next to the gym.  We know our Elders love to come to the games and support the students.  Our students also love to feel the support from the community, especially Elders.

The parking will be located on the Northwest side of the gym between the gym and the shop. Elders can come into the high school office and pick up a parking pass from Mrs. Reed.  Admission to the game is also free so please plan to attend our games and support our Mighty Cougars!

Delicious Food Shared in Ms. Dixie’s class!

Ms. Dixie’s food class has been busy cooking up delicious things to eat. The students wrote down their favorite recipe for a main dish and a vegetable. The students then exchanged their recipes with other students. The recipe directions had to be clear enough for the other student to make the dishes. After they made the dishes they sampled the delicious food.

Trunk or Treat at the Harrah Campus

Last Friday night saw the return of “Trunk or Treat” at the Harrah Campus. Many staff and community members participated in bringing their most creative cars, terrific trunks, and ghoulish grins. We saw many students and families. We are discussing how we could incorporate this event into a literacy night for next year; won’t that be spooktacular!

Dream Makers bring Lotería to campus

Students in Dream Makers facilitated games of Lotería to their peers at Harrah.  Lotería is a game similar to Bingo that promotes mental health awareness.

Panther Basketball

Boys basketball is officially underway.  The first game of the season will be held next Monday, November 8th on the Sunnyside Christian School located at 811 North Ave.  If you need directions, please call the Sunnyside Christian School office at (509) 837-3044.  Our athletes and coaches hope that you are able to drive the short 38 miles to support our Panthers.

Halloween on a Tuesday provides for Fun at School!

Mrs. Widener reported that the Harrah Campus celebrated Halloween by wearing costumes, eating treats, and having class parties during the last hour of the day. Ms. Docken's class did some baking to celebrate Halloween by making cookies for their party.

November is Native American Heritage Month

In order to commemorate Native American languages, literature, as well as local indigenous athletes, the Harrah Campus team have created a beautiful cultural display with various items that have been placed in the display case. Please stop by and take a look.
