Learning About Artificial Intelligence - This has been a week of professional development. On Tuesday, Dawn Sparks from ESD 105 worked with teachers on building arithmetic fluency, digital math manipulatives, and incorporating AI (ChatGPT) into our classrooms. Teachers learned about how to encourage students to use AI in an appropriate manner as a learning partner rather than something to do their work for them.
Teachers teaching teachers on the Harrah Campus – This week, in order to further promote student engagement in our building, the Inclusion Team facilitated a Professional Development event for their fellow teachers. The topic was on varying demands and resources to optimize challenges in learning for students. Principal Widener writes, “I am so proud of this team. It is one thing to teach children but it is something else to stand before your peers and teach them!” This team of professional educators has taken on this task of leading our improvement efforts in the practice of inclusion with professionalism and grace. Dodge Ball on the Harrah Campus - To celebrate the growth and academic excellence of our third and fourth grade students, the staff competed against the students in an exciting game of dodgeball. Unfortunately, pictures were not taken and fortunately, no one got hurt! You will have to ask your student who won the game!
Today in Sports News - 13 boys and 6 girls left for Goldendale to compete in a wrestling match. The team has 2 student managers as well. We will be hosting a large match at MAMS in early February with over 100 student athletes. Please watch for this event to be advertised and plan to attend and support your Mighty Chargers!
Civics Night a Success! - Ms. Kelsey Lavelle planned and organized our first Civics night. It was a wonderful success with over 100 people attending. Senior Civics students presented their research about a court case of their choosing. Students were able to follow their interests and learn about how court cases have 
NEW FLAG at White Swan High School - We have a new flag in our gym. The White Swan Arts and Rec Committee along with Mr. & Mrs. Terry Hull donated a large, retractable flag in the gym. It was unfurled for the first time on Monday January 22 at our game against Highland High School. Next Tuesday on January 30th we are planning a dedication of our new flag to honor our White Swan Veterans.
Cougar Sports
On January 25th, our wrestlers will be competing in the EWAC championship. This will determine the seating placement for post season. On Monday our coaches will be meeting with the other coaches in the league to determine where our wrestlers will be seated during post season play.
The Girls basketball team beat Columbia Burbank, which was an upset defeating the number two ranked team in the EWAC East.
The Boys basketball team are finishing up league play and there is a high probability that they will place as one of the top teams and earn the opportunity to be home during district playoffs.
Senior night for Basketball, Cheer and Band will be on Tuesday January 30, 2024.
Career Technical Education - Mr. Muller has been working with YVCC to articulate more of our CTE classes with them. We hope to have most of our animal science, plant science and business classes coupled with YVCC. Ms. Dix is working on adding an industry recognized certificate to her baking and pastry class.
